Penistone and District Riding Club was founded in 1977 from humble beginnings, with a small group of parents getting together and organising simple events. Today a dedicated committee of members work hard to put on professional shows and keep the club running smoothly.

We have two open shows every year, one in May and a second in August, both held at Penistone Recreation Ground. We have 5 rings and run Ridden, Inhand, Working Hunter and Show Jumping classes. Members can accumulate points at these two main shows; the member with the most points in each class receives an annual trophy at our Presentation Evening. A show dedicated to just Show Jumping is held in June at Crow Edge Field. In past years we have had an In Hand and Dressage show but poor attendances for the last few have led to us dropping that this year in favour of two pure Dressage shows. The committee are open to suggestions for other events from the membership providing there is enough support to run them. For the past three years we have also had a fun show to raise money for a chosen charity; these have included Cancer Research, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Help for Heroes.

Throughout the year the club organises various other events. There are regular training clinics with local instructors, in flatwork and jumping. Every summer we hold a four day course with classes for all abilities and ages, culminating in a combined training competition.
